Dancin’ on Glass: Superior Conditioning for Life & Sport
Part I - Fitness Shmitness
by Cameron Bradford / 1-14-10

Every ending is a new beginning.
Living with Superior Conditioning comes from a balance between Physical, Mental and Emotional health. This is accomplished Physically by adding a stimulus (exercise) with appropriate recovery (rest, eating healthy, sleep), Mentally by adding stimulus (visualization, problem solving) with appropriate recovery (increasing creativity/fantasy, calmness) and Emotionally by adding stimulus (experiencing fear, sadness) with increased recovery (feeling relief, increasing fun and enjoyment via activities).

People nowadays need to see a doctor because, "something is wrong"; convinced their body and mind are failing them. These are the same cast of characters that insist life is, "doing them." Due to dismal lifestyle choices and the amount of pill popping going on, if I took this approach I'm sure I would hesitate as well to live and train with the required intensity likely to promote vomiting each time out. So, instead it's easier to copout and hire a personal trainer or get a refill on pills from the doctor in hopes it will artificially stir up long lost motivation and emotion. On the other end of the spectrum, this has authorized and reinforced many personal trainers, along with money hungry gym chains and drug companies, to enthusiastically welcome this form of job security. As for me, No Thanks. Coaching and babysitting are not the same.

Inferior social conditioning along with ignorance forces persons to act in a way completely alien to beliefs. Emotional dependency prevents one from being as self-directed as previously thought, making him susceptible to crafty exploitation. While many don't to address this, instead choosing to blend in and cope via pills, drinking alcohol or watching TV to avoid dealing with it, proactive individuals rise up, roll the dice and take control of conditions around them. Like many of you, I've experienced extreme highs and lows through life's lessons. Superior Conditioning has varied definitions determined by our experiences. I am well aware of this. I am also aware that living a wishy-washy existence will eventually kill you.

Do you live and train your heart out and give your soul to it? If you are here to win, are you obsessed with the success of your personal best? What would happen if you lose a close relationship, fitness competition or work promotion barely? You'd have to ask yourself, "Have I really been trying my hardest to improve the quality of my life and empower those around me? Was I at my best?" When you know you tried your hardest at something and are confident you put everything into it you can sleep easy.

My Definition: Superior Conditioning refers to developing yourself physically, mentally and emotionally. It is much more than physical, which I believe is the lowest priority of the three. Our soul knows it all starts internally and its purpose is for emotional and spiritual growth. To me, living is about evolving and getting the best out of life and that won't work if you are someone's puppet. Superior Conditioning's mentality doesn't wait for someone else to pull its strings. Each of us must learn to control our own movement and vigorously search for solutions to life's problems while resisting the urge to bitch and complain. We must look for ways to kick procrastination and work relentlessly at developing the will-to-win instead of cracking open a beer and flippin' on the TV.

Do you embrace a non-competitive environment, which allows for a daily ho-hum, comfortable existence? If this is where your standard is set, no harm, as each of us has to examine our own lessons to arrive at the next level of consciousness (and some, of course, never will). Pay special attention to life. What is your 600 lb. Gorilla in the room? Why are you ignoring him? By addressing this you'll expose a definitive weak link preventing yourself from getting to the next level. It is easy to withdraw from life and quit, but if we keep in mind that every ending is a new beginning, and accept that with pain comes growth, we can progress.

For those who feel something is missing, for those wondering when it's your turn, now is your chance to make a change. Accept the responsibility to build a winner with your own hands.

Embrace your potential,,
Cameron
